Description
Ingredients
Scale
- 300 g Kartoffeln (potatoes)
- 250 g Hackfleisch (ground meat, e.g. beef or mixed)
- 1 rote Paprikaschote (red bell pepper)
- 200 ml Wasser (water)
- 5 EL Tomatenketchup (5 tablespoons tomato ketchup)
- 1 Würfel Fleischbrühe (1 cube beef or meat bouillon)
- Salz (salt)
- Pfeffer (pepper)
- Paprikapulver (paprika powder)
- Cayennepfeffer (cayenne pepper)
Instructions
- Begin by preparing the vegetables: peel the potatoes thoroughly using a vegetable peeler, then rinse them under cold water. Cut the peeled potatoes into uniform, bite-sized cubes so they cook evenly.
- Wash the red bell pepper under running water, remove the stem, seeds, and white membranes, then cut the pepper into small, even cubes.
- Heat a large, deep skillet or a pot over medium-high heat. Add the ground meat to the pan and cook it, breaking it up into small crumbles with a spatula or wooden spoon. Continue frying until the meat is browned all over and no longer pink.
- Once the meat is cooked, add the diced potatoes and red bell pepper to the pan. Stir everything together so the vegetables are well mixed with the meat.
- Pour in the water, then add the tomato ketchup and crumble the bouillon cube into the mixture. Stir thoroughly so the bouillon dissolves and the ketchup is evenly distributed.
- Season the mixture generously with salt, freshly ground black pepper, paprika powder, and a pinch of cayenne pepper to your taste. Stir to combine all the seasonings evenly.
- Bring the contents of the pot to a gentle boil over medium-high heat. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a lid, and let everything simmer for about 20-30 minutes. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking, and check that the potatoes become tender and cooked through.
- Once the potatoes are soft and the sauce has slightly thickened, taste the Bauerntopf and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Add more salt, pepper, paprika, or cayenne to your liking.
- Serve the Bauerntopf hot, optionally garnished with fresh chopped parsley or a dollop of sour cream for extra flavor.
Notes
You can customize this rustic stew by adding more vegetables such as carrots, peas, or leeks. For a richer flavor, use a mix of ground beef and pork. If you like it spicier, increase the amount of cayenne pepper. Serve with crusty bread for a complete meal. Leftovers taste even better the next day after the flavors have melded together.
