Ingredients
Scale
- 450 g Crème fraîche
- 1 kg Hackfleisch
- 5 Zwiebeln
- 450 g Nudeln
- 450 ml Milch
- 3 Paprikaschoten
- 1 Dose Tomaten
- 2 Dosen Mais
- 2 Dosen Pilze
- geriebener Käse (Menge nach Belieben)
- 200 g Schmelzkäse
Instructions
- Begin by bringing a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the 450 g of noodles and cook them according to the package instructions until they are al dente. Once cooked, drain the noodles and set them aside.
- Pour 450 ml of milk into a saucepan and heat it gently over medium heat. Add 200 g of Schmelzkäse (processed cheese) to the warm milk and stir continuously until the cheese has completely melted, creating a smooth cheese sauce.
- Remove the cheese sauce from the heat and stir in 450 g of Crème fraîche thoroughly to combine. Season the sauce with salt, pepper, and any other preferred spices such as paprika or garlic powder to enhance the flavor.
- Mix the cooked noodles gently with the prepared cheese and Crème fraîche sauce ensuring all noodles are evenly coated. Set this mixture aside for layering later.
- Heat a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add 1 kg of ground meat (Hackfleisch) and cook it thoroughly, breaking it apart with a spatula to ensure even browning. Season the meat with salt, pepper, and optional spices like paprika or chili powder to taste.
- While the meat is cooking, peel and slice 5 onions into half rings. Add the sliced onions to the pan with the cooked meat and sauté them until they become translucent and soft, which should take about 5-7 minutes.
- Wash and core 3 bell peppers (Paprikaschoten), then cut them into small pieces. Add the chopped peppers to the pan with the meat and onions, and cook them together until the peppers soften slightly, about 5 minutes.
- Drain 1 can of tomatoes, 2 cans of corn (Mais), and 2 cans of mushrooms (Pilze). Add all these vegetables to the pan with the meat mixture, stir well, and season generously with salt, pepper, and any other preferred herbs or spices. Let the mixture simmer gently for about 5-10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
- Preheat your oven to 210°C (410°F). In a large baking dish (Auflaufform), start layering the ingredients by first spreading a layer of the cheesy noodles on the bottom.
- Next, add a layer of the cooked meat and vegetable mixture evenly over the noodles. Continue to alternate layers of noodles and meat mixture until all ingredients are used up, finishing with a layer of noodles on top.
- Generously sprinkle grated cheese over the top layer to create a nice, golden crust once baked.
- Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake the casserole for approximately 20 to 25 minutes, or until the cheese on top is melted, bubbling, and golden brown.
- Remove the casserole from the oven and allow it to rest for a few minutes so it sets slightly before serving.
- Serve warm and enjoy this hearty, flavorful Farmerauflauf that is sure to be a hit with family and friends.
Notes
You can adjust the seasoning according to your taste preferences. Feel free to add herbs such as thyme or oregano to enhance the flavor. Using a mix of different cheeses for the topping can add extra richness. For a lighter version, substitute Crème fraîche with Greek yogurt. Make sure to not overcook the noodles as they will continue to cook slightly during baking.
