Ingredients
Scale
- 1 Zwiebel, oder eine Tasse Röstzwiebeln
- 1 – 2 EL Senf
- 650 g Hackfleisch, gemischt
- 1 großes Ei
- 2 – 3 EL Ketchup (Curry- oder Tomatenketchup)
- 4 EL Wasser, warm
- 3 EL Paprikapulver
- einige Kräuter, gehackt
- Salz und Pfeffer
- 2 Tassen Paniermehl
Instructions
- Begin by preparing the spice mixture: In a large mixing bowl, add 4 tablespoons of warm water. Sprinkle 3 tablespoons of paprika powder over the water and stir thoroughly until the paprika is completely dissolved, creating a smooth, reddish liquid.
- Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of mustard, 2 to 3 tablespoons of ketchup (either curry or tomato ketchup), and 1 large egg to the bowl. Continue mixing until all the ingredients are well combined and the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Peel and finely chop 1 onion (or measure out 1 cup of crispy fried onions if substituting). Add the chopped onion to the bowl with the spice mixture.
- Add 650 grams of mixed ground meat (such as a beef and pork blend) to the bowl. Sprinkle in a handful of chopped fresh herbs of your choice (such as parsley, chives, or dill) for added flavor.
- Add 2 cups of breadcrumbs to the rest of the ingredients in the bowl. Season generously with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
- Using clean hands, knead and mix all the ingredients together thoroughly. Make sure everything is evenly combined and that the mixture holds together well. The mixture should be moist but not too sticky; if it seems too wet, add a little more breadcrumbs.
- Preheat your oven to 210°C (410°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- With damp hands, shape the meat mixture into evenly sized balls or patties, according to your preference. Place each frikadelle onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving a little space between them.
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the frikadellen for 20 to 30 minutes, depending on their size. Halfway through the baking time, you may turn them over to ensure even browning.
- Bake until the frikadellen are cooked through, golden brown, and have developed a crispy, slightly dark exterior. The internal temperature should reach at least 70°C (160°F) to ensure they are fully cooked.
- Remove the frikadellen from the oven and let them rest for a couple of minutes before serving. Enjoy them hot with your favorite sides, such as potatoes, salads, or bread.
Notes
Tipp: You can substitute mixed ground meat with ground poultry to make a lighter, lower-calorie version of these frikadellen. Adjust the baking time according to the size of your frikadellen to ensure they are cooked through and have a nice crispy crust. Fresh herbs such as parsley, chives, or dill add extra flavor, but you can use your favorites. Serve with mustard, ketchup, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
