Description
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 Weißkohl
- 2 EL Öl
- 1/2 Tasse Wasser
- 1 EL Sojasauce
Instructions
- Begin by preparing the Weißkohl (white cabbage). Remove all the outer leaves that might be damaged or dirty to ensure only fresh cabbage is used. Then, cut the cabbage into quarters by slicing it into four equal parts. Remove the tough core (Strunk) from each quarter carefully by cutting it out. After that, slice each quarter into fine, thin strips to allow for even cooking and better absorption of flavors.
- Next, take a large frying pan or skillet and heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium heat. Once the oil is hot but not smoking, add the sliced Weißkohl into the pan. Immediately pour in half a cup (1/2 Tasse) of water to create steam for the cooking process. Quickly cover the pan with a tight-fitting lid to trap the steam and help the cabbage cook evenly and become tender.
- Allow the Weißkohl to simmer gently for about 30 minutes. During this time, check the cabbage every 5 to 7 minutes and stir it gently using a wooden spoon or spatula. This ensures even cooking and prevents the cabbage from sticking to the pan or burning at the bottom.
- About 5 minutes before the cooking time is complete, remove the lid and drizzle 1 tablespoon of soy sauce evenly over the cabbage. Stir well to combine the soy sauce with the cabbage. Continue cooking uncovered so that the soy sauce can reduce slightly, intensifying the flavor and coating the cabbage nicely. Once the soy sauce has thickened and the cabbage is tender and flavorful, remove the pan from the heat and your dish is ready to serve.
Notes
For a richer flavor, you can add finely chopped garlic or onions at the beginning when heating the oil. Adjust the amount of soy sauce according to your taste preference. Serving the dish immediately after cooking will ensure the best texture and flavor.
