Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (356°F) to ensure it is ready for baking the casserole.
- Peel the onions and finely chop them into small pieces. Set them aside.
- Wash the bell peppers thoroughly, remove the stems, seeds, and white membranes, and then cut the peppers into small cubes.
- Take a large casserole or baking dish and evenly spread the uncooked Spätzle noodles on the bottom, creating a base layer.
- Distribute the chopped bell pepper cubes and onion pieces evenly over the layer of Spätzle in the baking dish.
- Spread the raw Gyros meat evenly on top of the vegetables, ensuring that the meat covers the entire surface.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the two cups of cream (Sahne), one cup of sour cream (Schmand), and the packet of onion soup mix (Zwiebelsuppe). Whisk together thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
- Pour the cream, sour cream, and soup mixture evenly over the entire contents of the baking dish, making sure all ingredients are moistened and the liquid is distributed throughout.
- Place the baking dish in the preheated oven on the middle rack. Bake at 180°C (356°F) for approximately 40 minutes, or until the top is golden, the sauce is bubbling, and the meat is cooked through.
- Carefully remove the casserole from the oven. Allow it to cool for a few minutes before serving to let the sauce thicken slightly and the flavors meld. Serve hot and enjoy your Gyros-Spätzle Auflauf!

You can use either pork or chicken Gyros meat, depending on your preference. For extra flavor, consider adding a sprinkle of grated cheese on top before baking.
