Description

Ingredients

Scale
  • 900 g mixed ground meat (Hackfleisch, gemischt)
  • 3 red bell peppers, cut into strips
  • 3 onions, cut into half rings
  • 1 ½ chili peppers, cut into long thin strips
  • 1 ½ packages of instant potato dumpling mix (Kartoffelklöße halb & halb, for 12 dumplings)
  • 300 g grated cheese (Mozzarella, Edam, or similar)
  • 3 tomatoes, pureed, or some pizza sauce
  • 3 teaspoons dried marjoram
  • 1 ½ teaspoons sweet paprika powder
  • Ground nutmeg, to taste
  • Some oil or clarified butter (Butterschmalz)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the potato dumpling mix according to the package instructions. Before adding the dumpling mix to the water, grate a generous amount of nutmeg into the water and season it with salt. Mix thoroughly and let the dough rest for 20 minutes to allow it to set.
  2. While the dough is resting, heat a large pan over medium-high heat and add a small amount of oil or clarified butter. Add the mixed ground meat and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the meat is browned and cooked through. Remove the pan from the heat.
  3. Add the pureed tomatoes (or pizza sauce) to the browned meat in the pan. Season the meat mixture with salt, pepper, dried marjoram, and sweet paprika powder. Stir well to combine, ensuring the spices and tomato are evenly distributed throughout the meat.
  4. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Once the potato dough has rested, spread it evenly over the prepared baking sheet, pressing it out to form a uniform pizza base that covers the entire surface.
  5. Spoon the seasoned ground meat and tomato mixture evenly over the potato base, spreading it out to cover the entire surface.
  6. Scatter the sliced onions, chili peppers, and red bell pepper strips evenly over the meat layer, ensuring an even distribution of vegetables across the pizza.
  7. Sprinkle the grated cheese generously over the entire surface, covering the vegetables and meat completely.
  8. Preheat your oven to 180°C (356°F). Place the baking sheet in the lower third of the oven and bake for about 25 minutes. Check if the cheese is golden brown; if not, move the baking sheet to the upper third of the oven and bake for a few more minutes until the cheese is bubbling and golden.
  9. Remove the pizza from the oven and allow it to cool slightly before slicing and serving. Enjoy your homemade potato-based pizza!

Notes

You can substitute the instant potato dumpling mix with homemade potato dough if you prefer. Adjust the level of chili to your spice tolerance. For a crispier base, spread the potato dough as thinly as possible. Try different cheese blends for varied flavor. Leftovers can be reheated in the oven or microwave.
