Nudelauflauf Rezept

Nudelauflauf Rezept

  • Author: Sarah
  • Total Time: 30
  • Yield: 2 Portionen 1x

Description

Ingredients

Scale
  • Penne pasta
  • Gouda cheese (medium-aged, whole piece)
  • Cooked ham
  • 200 ml milk
  • 1 egg
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Nutmeg
  • Butter
  • Breadcrumbs

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (392°F), ensuring the rack is positioned in the middle of the oven for even baking.
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the Penne pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente, usually about 8-10 minutes. Drain the pasta in a colander and set aside.
  3. While the pasta is cooking, cut the cooked ham into small bite-sized cubes or strips. Take the Gouda cheese and grate it finely using a box grater or food processor.
  4. Lightly grease a large baking dish with a small amount of butter to prevent sticking. Sprinkle a thin, even layer of breadcrumbs over the bottom and sides of the dish to add flavor and texture.
  5. In the prepared baking dish, evenly distribute the cooked Penne pasta. Sprinkle the diced ham and grated Gouda cheese evenly over the pasta, ensuring the ingredients are well combined for even flavor throughout the dish.
  6. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the milk and egg until completely combined. Season the mixture generously with salt, freshly ground black pepper, and a pinch of grated nutmeg to taste. Whisk again to incorporate the seasonings.
  7. Pour the seasoned milk and egg mixture evenly over the ingredients in the baking dish, making sure it seeps through the pasta and other ingredients to bind everything together.
  8. Sprinkle an even layer of breadcrumbs over the top of the casserole. Dot the surface with small pieces of butter (butter flakes), distributing them evenly to help the top crisp and brown nicely during baking.
  9. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-45 minutes. The bake is ready when the top is golden brown, the cheese has melted, and the casserole is bubbling around the edges.
  10. Remove the Nudelauflauf from the oven and allow it to rest for 5-10 minutes before serving. This resting time helps the casserole set and makes it easier to slice and serve.

Notes

For extra flavor, you can add sautéed onions, garlic, or fresh herbs to the pasta mixture before baking. If you prefer a stronger cheese flavor, mix in some grated Parmesan with the Gouda. To make the dish vegetarian, simply omit the ham or replace it with sautéed vegetables such as mushrooms, bell peppers, or zucchini.
