Schweizer Wurstsalat Rezept

  • Author: Sarah

Description

Ingredients

Scale
  • 300 g Fleischwurst (bologna sausage or similar cooked sausage)
  • 200 g Emmentaler cheese
  • 100 g Gewürzgurken (pickled gherkins)
  • 2 onions
  • 3 tablespoons Branntweinessig (distilled vinegar)
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 4 tablespoons oil (such as sunflower or rapeseed oil)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare all your ingredients and kitchen tools before starting. Ensure you have a sharp knife, cutting board, large mixing bowl, and a small bowl for the dressing.
  2. Begin by slicing the Fleischwurst (bologna sausage) into approximately 0.5 cm thick slices. Then, stack the slices and cut them lengthwise into thin strips. Place the sausage strips into a large mixing bowl.
  3. Cut the Emmentaler cheese into slices of similar thickness, then slice these into thin strips to match the sausage. Add the cheese strips to the mixing bowl with the sausage.
  4. Take the pickled gherkins and cut them lengthwise into thin strips as well. Add these to the bowl with the sausage and cheese.
  5. Peel the onions and cut them in half from root to tip. Lay each half flat and slice them into very thin rings. Add the onion rings to the other ingredients in the mixing bowl.
  6. In a separate small bowl, combine the distilled vinegar, water, oil, salt, and white pepper. Whisk the ingredients together thoroughly until the dressing is well blended and the salt has dissolved.
  7. Pour the dressing evenly over the sausage, cheese, gherkins, and onions in the large mixing bowl.
  8. Using two large spoons or salad tongs, gently toss all the ingredients together until everything is evenly coated with the dressing. Be careful not to break up the cheese or sausage strips.
  9. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid and place it in the refrigerator. Allow the salad to marinate for at least 1 hour. This will help the flavors meld and the ingredients absorb the dressing.
  10. After marinating, give the salad a final toss to redistribute the dressing. Taste and adjust the seasoning with additional salt or pepper if needed. Serve the Schweizer Wurstsalat chilled, optionally garnished with fresh chives or parsley, and enjoy it with hearty bread.

Notes

For the most authentic flavor, use Emmentaler cheese and a traditional German or Swiss Fleischwurst. The salad is even more flavorful if left to marinate overnight. Serve it as a main dish with rustic bread, or as part of a spread at a picnic or buffet. If you like, add fresh herbs such as chives or parsley for extra color and taste.
