Description
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 bunch spring onions or 2 shallots or onions
- 1 package cream cheese or sour cream
- 200 g ham, raw or cooked
- Pepper
- 1 roll of refrigerated puff pastry
- A little salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 170°C (fan/convection setting) so it is hot and ready when you are finished with the preparation.
- Prepare the filling by first peeling the onions or shallots. Dice them finely into small pieces to ensure an even distribution of flavor throughout the roll.
- Cut the ham (either raw or cooked, depending on preference) into small cubes. This will help the ham blend seamlessly with the other filling ingredients.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the diced onions and ham with the cream cheese or sour cream. Mix thoroughly with a spoon or spatula until you have a creamy, well-blended mixture. Season generously with pepper and a little salt to taste. If desired, you can also add a pinch of Herbes de Provence or other dried herbs for extra flavor.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a clean surface or leave it on the provided baking paper if it comes with any. Make sure the pastry is flat and even.
- Spread the prepared filling evenly over the entire surface of the puff pastry, ensuring the filling reaches all the edges for consistent flavor in every bite.
- Starting from one of the longer edges, gently but tightly roll up the puff pastry to form a log. Try to keep the roll as compact as possible for neat, round slices.
- Using a sharp knife, slice the rolled pastry into pieces approximately 3 cm thick. This will result in individual, spiral-shaped slices.
- Arrange the cut slices, cut side up, on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make sure to leave a little space between each roll so they can expand and brown evenly in the oven.
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and crispy to your liking. You may bake a little longer for deeper color and crispiness.
- Once baked, remove the tray from the oven and let the Flammkuchen rolls cool slightly before serving. They can be enjoyed warm or at room temperature.
Notes
These Flammkuchen rolls are delicious both hot and cold and make a fantastic addition to brunch or any party buffet. You can easily adapt the filling by adding different cheeses, vegetables, or herbs to suit your taste. The rolls are portable, making them perfect for picnics or sharing at gatherings.
