Ingredients
Scale
- 1 kleine Zwiebel
- 1 EL Olivenöl
- 1 Packung (200 g) passierte Tomaten
- 1 TL Tomatenmark
- Salz
- weißer Pfeffer
- 1 Prise Zucker
- 100 g gekochter Schinken
- 75 g Mozzarella-Käse
- 100 g Champignons
- 1 TL Butter oder Margarine
- 4 Scheiben Toastbrot
- 1 TL getrockneter Basilikum
Instructions
- Begin by preparing the tomato sauce: Peel the small onion and finely dice it. Heat the olive oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the diced onion and sauté for about 2-3 minutes until the onion becomes translucent and soft.
- Pour in the passierte Tomaten (sieved tomatoes) and stir in the tomato paste. Let the mixture simmer over medium heat for about 5 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly. Season the sauce with a pinch of salt, a little white pepper, and a pinch of sugar to balance the acidity. Stir to combine and set the sauce aside.
- While the sauce is simmering, cut the cooked ham into small, bite-sized pieces. Set aside.
- Next, prepare the cheese and mushrooms. Cut the mozzarella cheese into small cubes. Clean the mushrooms thoroughly with a damp paper towel or a brush, then slice them thinly.
- Heat the butter or margarine in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the sliced mushrooms and sauté them for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and their moisture has evaporated. Season the mushrooms with salt and white pepper to taste. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Toast the four slices of bread in a toaster or under a broiler until they are golden brown and crisp on both sides. This helps them stay crunchy even after baking.
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (top/bottom heat), 175°C (fan), or gas mark 3.
- Lay the toasted bread slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Evenly spread the tomato sauce over each slice, covering the entire surface.
- Distribute the sautéed mushrooms, diced ham, and mozzarella cubes evenly over the tomato sauce on each toast slice. Sprinkle each with the dried basil to add flavor and aroma.
- Place the baking sheet with the topped toast slices into the preheated oven. Bake for about 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted, bubbling, and starting to turn golden brown. The toppings should be hot and the toast crisp.
- Remove the pizza toasts from the oven and let them cool for 1-2 minutes before serving. Enjoy your homemade Pizza-Toast mit Schinken while it’s still warm and melty.
Notes
You can customize your Pizza-Toast mit Schinken by adding other toppings such as sliced bell peppers, olives, or fresh herbs. For a vegetarian version, simply omit the ham and add more vegetables. Serve the pizza toasts with a fresh green salad for a complete meal. If you prefer a crispier base, use rustic or country-style bread slices instead of classic toast.
