Ingredients
Scale
- 500 g Faschiertes (ground meat, e.g., beef or mixed)
- 250 g Reis (rice)
- 1 Stk Zwiebel (onion)
- 1 Stk Zucchini
- 4 Stk Tomaten (tomatoes)
- 2 Stk Paprika (bell peppers)
- 2 Stk Knoblauchzehen (garlic cloves)
- 1 Prise Salz und Pfeffer (salt and pepper, to taste)
- 2 EL Öl (oil)
Instructions
- Begin by thoroughly rinsing the rice under cold water to remove excess starch. Place the rice in a medium saucepan and add double the amount of water (500 ml for 250 g rice). Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let the rice simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until it is tender and the water is fully absorbed. Fluff the rice with a fork and set aside.
- While the rice is cooking, peel the onion and garlic cloves. Using a sharp knife, finely chop both the onion and the garlic. This will ensure they blend smoothly into the dish and release their full flavor.
- Wash the zucchini, tomatoes, and bell peppers thoroughly under running water. Using a clean cutting board, dice the zucchini, tomatoes, and bell peppers into small, even cubes. Set the prepared vegetables aside.
- Heat the oil in a large, deep skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the chopped onions and sauté them for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they become translucent and fragrant. Add the chopped garlic and continue to sauté for another 1 minute, being careful not to let the garlic burn.
- Add the ground meat (Faschiertes) to the pan with the onions and garlic. Stir frequently, breaking the meat apart with a wooden spoon or spatula. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, or until the meat is browned and cooked through.
- Once the meat is browned, add the diced zucchini, tomatoes, and bell peppers to the pan. Stir well to combine all the ingredients. Reduce the heat to medium and let the mixture cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. The vegetables will soften and their juices will help create a flavorful sauce.
- When the vegetables are tender and the flavors have melded together, add the cooked rice to the pan. Gently fold the rice into the meat and vegetable mixture, making sure everything is evenly distributed. Continue to cook for another 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to combine.
- Season the Zucchini-Reis with salt and pepper to taste. Stir well, then taste and adjust the seasoning if necessary. Remove the pan from the heat.
- Serve the Zucchini-Reis hot, either as a main dish or as a hearty side. Optionally, you can garnish with fresh herbs like parsley or basil for extra flavor and a pop of color.
Notes
You can use any type of ground meat, such as beef, pork, or a combination. For a vegetarian version, substitute the meat with cooked lentils or a plant-based ground meat alternative. Feel free to adjust the types of vegetables based on what’s in season or your personal preference. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two days and taste even better the next day as the flavors continue to develop.
